Rosie Gibbens

For this project, my base idea is inspired by the works of a contemporary performance artist, Rosie Gibbens. Since my project mainly revolves around spice, I would like to bring attention to how it actually affects our body I would like my work to be around the tongue.

Rosie features her body in her work in a very unique manner which makes her stand out. Nowadays, she has been inclined towards incorporating juxtapositions in her performances (look at 'Auto erotic Assimilation'). Her more recent works have combined my fascination for finding alternative functions for appliances and gadgets with sewn soft sculptures that act as avatars for my body. She is particularly drawn to items that imply a desire for self-optimisation such as exercise equipment or domestic gizmos. There is also generally a sexualised element to the way objects are used and i think it is intended.

therefore, I too plan to play with body parts in an expressive way and play with different mediums to illustrate my ideas
